Routine Health Care

Vaccinations

Routine vaccination is an important part in maintaining the overall health of your horse. We are happy to work with you and your horse in developing the best individualized vaccine protocol for your horse, including core vaccines, as well as ‘risk based’ vaccines. For more information on current vaccine recommendations, please consult the ‘Vaccination guidelines’ tab on the AAEP (American Association of Equine Practitioners) web page (https://aaep.org/guidelines/vaccination-guidelines), or speak with one of our doctors today.

Coggins/EIA Testing

Equine Infectious Anemia is a disease caused by a virus transmitted by blood sucking insects, blood products/contaminated equipment and trans-placentally. Most horse shows and events require proof of a negative ‘Coggins’ test to participate. Additionally, international border crossing requires proof of a negative ‘Coggins’ test to permit travel. We are able to perform Coggins exams, photos and laboratory sample submission.

Fecal Analysis and Deworming

Tailoring an individualized de-worming protocol for your horse, based on a fecal egg count, as well as fecal egg count reduction test are the best ways to limit a horses’ infection with parasites so that your horse stays healthy. This strategy of de-worming is also the most economical way to appropriately de-worm your horse, which will ultimately save both unnecessary de-worming, financial cost and limit parasite resistance.

Routine Blood Tests

We are able to offer same, or next day results on blood samples collected from your horse, which may be warranted for a variety of reasons. A wide spectrum of blood tests exist which allow us to evaluate and monitor inflammation, infection, parasitism, electrolyte disturbances, enzymes, renal, hepatic and muscle values as well as a plethora of other values when your horse is feeling unwell.
