Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a tool used to evaluate both soft tissue and bony structures. It can be used in the diagnosis of lameness or musculoskeletal problems, for reproduction, or in cases of colic or gastrointestinal issues. Our doctors have significant training in the use of ultrasound for diagnosis of a variety of conditions and ultrasound-guided therapies.

Digital Radiography (X-Rays)

Digital radiography, or x-rays, give a snapshot of the bones inside your horse’s body at a given point in time. Radiographs are routinely used in lameness diagnosis, pre-purchase examinations, therapeutic trimming/shoeing and diagnosis of neck or back pain.

Lameness Locator

The Lameness Locator is a diagnostic system used to evaluate subtle or multi-limb lameness. It objectively assesses your horse’s movements and helps to localize lameness.

Endoscopy

Endoscopy can be used to evaluate the upper airway to aid in the diagnosis of breathing problems. TD Equine has the ability to consult with the University of Calgary to use a Dynamic Endoscopy system, which can evaluate the function of the upper airway during exercise. Endoscopy can also be used to evaluate other structures in the nasal passages such as the guttural pouches.

Gastroscopy

Gastric ulcers are common in performance horses. Gastroscopy is used to verify the presence of ulcers, and where in the stomach they occur. Depending on their location (either squamous or glandular), an effective medication plan can be instituted to target each type of gastric ulcer.

Saddle Fit Diagnostic Pad

Determining correct saddle fit is key in the prevention of back pain. To confirm if there is a suspicion of uneven saddle pressure the team uses a specifically designed saddle impression pad to help confirm whether the saddle may be contributing to your horse’s back issues.
