Our practice’s main focus is on performance medicine, however there are opportunities for externs in both Ambulatory Medicine & Sports Medicine. Externships are strongly encouraged for those students wishing to apply for an Internship position. If you would like to apply for an externship, please complete our TD Equine Externship Application Form, and send to us via email at tdequine.applications@gmail.com, as well as a CV & a short description of yourself. If you have questions about doing an externship with us, or what our externships entail, please feel free to reach out.

Internship

We are proud to partner with the University of Calgary Faculty of Veterinary Medicine for our internship program. TD Equine Veterinary Group offers an ambulatory based internship with a focus on performance horse health and complete care of the equine athlete. The practice is located just south of Calgary and is closely involved with international horse venues including Spruce Meadows, Rocky Mountain Show Jumping and the Calgary Polo Club.

The internship is intended to provide practice exposure involving a number of athletic disciplines including western performance, hunter/jumper, polo and dressage horses. We have veterinarians on staff that are board certified in surgery and sports medicine/rehabilitation. Other veterinarians have advanced training in acupuncture, podiatry and imaging. The internship will incorporate lameness diagnostics, treatments, rehabilitation programs, dentistry, preventative health care, pre-purchase examinations, emergency medicine and a smaller component of theriogenology.

The practice is part of the distributed veterinary learning community (DVLC) of the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Board certified veterinary specialists within the veterinary school program are accessible and participate in our internship program. This affiliation also provides an academic component which incorporates 1 day a month at the school for educational sessions in advanced imaging, case presentations and discussions, as well as assisting in labs for veterinary students. For additional information, please click here.

Our internship includes dedicated mentoring and graduated independence. Initially, our interns will provide assistance to our doctors on a rotating basis, and as their skills and confidence develop, they will start performing primary care and emergency duties with clinician back up. This internship offers significant hands on experience, and interns will finish their year as competent and proficient veterinarians. The program starts and finishes with flexible dates, preferably on June 1.

We would encourage any students that are interested in our internship program to arrange an externship in their third or fourth year.

Contact us at tdequine.applications@gmail.com.  Internship applications should include a cover letter, resume, veterinary transcripts (if available), and have references available upon request.  Externships are strongly encouraged prior to application.
